Melbourne Suburb Guide: Where Should You Live When You Make the Move?

Melbourne Suburb Guide: Where Should You Live When You Make the Move?

If you are relocating to Melbourne from the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, or anywhere else, one of the first real questions you will face is where to live. And honestly, it is a good one. Melbourne is a big city with a lot of great options, and the right suburb can make a real difference to your lifestyle, your commute, and how quickly you feel settled.

Here is a quick guide to the areas that come up most when I am helping recruiters make the move.

The CBD and Southbank

If you want zero commute and to be right in the thick of it, the CBD and Southbank are worth considering. It is fast-paced, walkable, and puts you right next to your clients. The trade-off is that it can feel a little soulless after hours if you are craving a real neighbourhood feel.

Fitzroy and Richmond

These are firm favourites with the recruiters I place. Great coffee, great food, a real community vibe, and still only 10 to 15 minutes from the city by tram. It has that European inner-city feel that a lot of UK and Irish recruiters absolutely love from the moment they arrive.

South Yarra, Toorak, and Prahran

If lifestyle and a bit of prestige are important to you, this is the pocket to look at. Beautiful streets, great restaurants, close to the Botanic Gardens and the Yarra River. Still very well connected to the CBD. A fantastic area to put down roots.

Melbourne is one of the most liveable cities in the world, and wherever you land, you are going to love it. If you want to talk through the move, I am always happy to help.
